The worst moment for the atheist is when he is really thankful and has nobody to thank. ~ Dante Rossetti

The Church's celebration three weeks ago Baptism of the Lord signaled the "official" end of the Christmas season. Today's feast of the Presentation of the Lord seems to extend the Incarnation celebration a bit longer. In fact, some have called this feast a "Second Epiphany."
The first reading recalls the anticipation of Advent, as Malachi writes, "Lo, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me." The reading from Hebrews reminds us of the Incarnation, proclaiming that Jesus had a "share" in our own "blood and flesh." The Gospel finds the infant Jesus on his first visit to Jerusalem and his human parents once again surprised and in awe over the events surround his birth.
In the simplicity of the manger, in the grandeur of the temple, in the domesticity of Nazareth, Jesus comes. May we come to know him and so be filled with "wisdom" and the "favor of God." Copyright© J.S.Paluch Co.
Monday, February 3, is the feast of St. Blaise. Tradition says that St. Blaise was a bishop in the fourth century in Armenia and he is said to have healed a young boy who was choking from a fish bone caught in his throat. On his feast day it is the custom to bless throats. Fr. Sosa will bless throats at the 12:10pm mass.
Copyright© J.S.Paluch Co.
The time has begun to start planning for our Steubenville trip for our High School Youth in June. If you would like to sponsor a youth or give a donation for the trip it would be greatly appreciated. The cost per youth is $300. This year we have multiple families who have more than one youth attending. We will be doing fundraising to hopefully alleviate some of the cost. Steubenville is truly a life changing experience and has had a great impact amongst our youth here at St. Vincent Pallotti. If you would like to help please contact Jennifer Hernandez 325-370-2393 or Teresa Villarreal 325-660-3308.

Loving Father, I entrust myself to your care this day;
guide with wisdom and skill
the minds and hands of the medical people
who minister in your Name,
and grant that every cause of illness be removed,
I may be restored to soundness of health
and learn to live in more perfect harmony
with you and with those around me.
Through Jesus Christ.
Into your hands,
I commend my body and my soul.

A state senator in California introduced a bill Wednesday which would seek to force priests to violate the sacramental seal of confession in suspected cases of child abuse or neglect. Clergy are already mandatory reporters in the state of California, but there is a legal exemption for material disclosed in the confessional.
Despite the constant threat of violence from Boko Haram terrorists, Catholics in Nigeria remain faithful to the Gospel, trusting God as they offer a witness of forgiveness, said a priest from the country.
